The Mountains are Alive with Music

WEB EXCLUSIVE

For nearly 30 years, Mountain Stage has fulfilled audiences’ live music cravings. The acclaimed radio show is not just West Virginians belting out ballads though. While it is produced by WV Public Broadcasting, the two-hour radio show hosted and artistically directed by Larry Groce is distributed worldwide on National Public Radio (NPR). With some of the recordings held in different states, most are hosted at the Culture Center Theatre in Charleston.

Typically, each live show hosts five performers in various genres of music ranging from folk to jazz. Producing 26 episodes each year, Mountain Stage allows music lovers a chance to see their favorite artists live and provides a variety of updates for any iPod. Accompanying many musicians from our very own West Virginia are big names including past guests Regina Spektor, Amos Lee, Brett Dennen, and Corey Smith.

Archives of past shows are available on the Mountain Stage and NPR websites.

With advance tickets priced at only $15, it’s no surprise shows sell out. To reserve a seat at the next show, call 800.594.TIXX or visit Mountain Stage online. An archive of Mountain Stage performances are available online, including the October 21, 2011, performance featuring Vince Gill, David Mayfield Parade, Red Molly, Jim Lauderdale, and John Lilly.
