DIY: Chalkboard Mirror

I was cleaning out one of my closets last week and realized I had acquired a small collection of antique mirrors. I'm not sure what my intentions were when I purchased them, but rediscovering them put me in a crafty mode. I’ve seen so many posts about transforming old mirrors and frames into chalkboards so I thought I’d give it a shot! Please excuse my not-so-pretty iPhone pictures. I had to paint these in my garage on a rainy day—I refused to let the rain stop me. This project was actually really simple and affordable. See my how-to below.

Materials needed: mirror or frame, wet washcloth, chalkboard paint (I used Valspar chalkboard spray paint), any color spray paint or paint for your frame, and newspaper.

First I cleaned each mirror with a wet washcloth, just to be sure the paint would go on smoothly without any dust. I didn't use any kind of primer but I would definitely recommend it. I scattered my newspaper across the entire garage floor because spray paint tends to get everywhere. I took the mirrors out and started spraying away! They sat overnight and were dry and ready to hang the next morning.
