FeedGet Warm & Cozy with Sweater Dresses
It's officially November and the weather is starting to get colder. The cute sundresses of summer have been packed up, but sweater dresses are a great replacement. I picked out three of my personal favorite sweater dresses and dressed them up for you.
I took a nice, simple belted dress and found two purses that I love to go with it. On the left side, I took a green and blue tote whose handles match the tan on the belt and with the boots. You don't have to stick with heeled boots, flat boots in the same color will work just as well. I then took the colors out of the purse and found matching jewelry. Since this dress has a cowl neckline, you don't need to add a necklace or scarf as that's just way too much around your neck. On the right hand side of this set, I found this amazing red and berry print clutch. Sadly, it's Alexander McQueen and costs upwards of $1,500 so I won't be adding it to my collection but it's a great inspiration for this dress. I replaced the tan belt with a red one of equal width. Red pumps and berry colored jewelry would make this a great outfit for a holiday party or night out with the girls.
I say I love a lot of things, but that doesn't mean I run out and buy all of them. If this dress wasn't $600, I would have bought it when I found it on Polyvore a few hours ago. This dress took me almost two hours to figure out how to style. The dress looks simple but has a lot of detail due to the draping which I didn't want to upstage (it'd also make the outfit too busy). I wasn't crazy about mixing colors with it. So I settled for what initially seemed a boring black scheme which turned out to look amazingly chic. I then also tried it out with dark brown riding boots and pearls for a classic Ralph Lauren look. I love this Kate Spade clutch, as it's made out of real wood and works well with the “country estate” look I put together.
Preppy is such an easy style to pull off in the winter. I took a heavier knit navy dress and added gray loafers with red tassels and gray tights. A red plaid scarf and simple gray crossover bag makes this an easy outfit to wear running errands or even to visit with friends. To dress it up, I added gold loafers, and gold and pearl jewelry. Preppy is a style that welcomes whimsical touches so I threw in this Kate Spade feathered clutch for fun. I'd make sure to keep it put up, as it is bound to become a $200 pet toy.
TIP OF THE DAY: While wearing tights, there are a few things to keep in mind to keep your outfit looking its best. First, make sure they're opaque—the package should state this. If you were born after 1990, have someone explain sheer suntan pantyhose to you and you'll understand why I say to get opaque tights. Secondly, tights should match either the color of your skirt or your shoes. This helps your legs look longer and keeps the outfit looking cohesive.
