Nail It! Summer 2012 Trends

Before we all know it, Memorial Day will be here and summer will unofficially start. Personally, I can speak for many people when I say I'm looking forward to warm summer days. To help you get ready for the upcoming summer, here are some tips on trending nail polishes:

This set features the hottest colors for summer: hot pink, a saturated orange, and a shimmery pink with copper glitter. This is the Zoya Blogger Collection, available through Birchbox (you don't have to be a member to purchase). A bit of a advice: these are jelly polishes, and thus won't opaque completely. The finish is similar to having a jelly bean on your finger tips.

This set from Kate Spade features colors inspired from Florence Broadhurst, a noted designer from Australia. While this set also includes a hot pink and orange, they are different shades. The pink, called Watermelon Fingers, has a tinge of purple that makes it more of a fuchsia. The orange, Orange Solar, intially looks almost red, but when you get it on your fingers the orange really takes over. It's really quite stunning how bright it is. The two remaining colors, Yellow Cockatoo and Seafoam Swirls, finish the set beautifully. Yellow nail polish formulations are a tricky beast, no matter how opaque they may seem they'll still go on sheer. Yellow Cockatoo started off sort of sheer and streaky, but three thin coats gave the best coverage I've ever seen from a yellow. Seafoam Swirls is sure to give a fun kick to your summer outfits, it looks amazing against neutrals. If you're only going to buy one nail polish collection this summer, this Kate Spade kit would be my choice. Good quality and great colors.

This Brazillian-inspired color set is from Essie and is available at Macy's. The orange is the aptly-named Braziliant, yet another saturated orange but this time in a pink-tinged shimmer. The pink is Super Bossa Nova, and the blue is Smooth Sailing with silver shimmer. While this set is only available at Macy's, you can buy the polishes separately wherever Essie is sold. Braziliant is from last year's summer collection, and I like to pair it as a accent nail on my ring fingers while wearing a creamy brown polish.
