Nautical Necessities

I have always lived within walking distance of a river. Growing up, I spent much time near the Ohio River, in college I was a few blocks within the Kanawha, and now I'm back next to the Ohio. I love living near the river, it brings a certain element of peace to my soul. As one might imagine, being so close to a river allowed me to spend a fair amount of time boating, which is one of my absolutely favorite things to do when weather allows. Now that spring is here with summer close on its heels, it's time to get back on the boat and get cruising. Here are some nautical-inspired ideas that are great both on and off shore.
Clockwise from right: Barbour Summer Wax International Jacket, J.Crew Sailboat Critter Shorts, Lilly Pulitzer Camie Dress, Cape Madras Nautical Link Tunic, Ann Taylor LOFT Marisa Sailor Pants, Old Navy Sail Away Boat Tee.
The nights on the river (or on a lake or up in the mountains) can get pretty chilly even on some of the hottest days of the summer. This yellow jacket from Barbour allows plenty of pockets for carrying gear and helping to keep the wind off of you. The J.Crew critter shorts are simply adorable and are perfect to wear anywhere, land or water. This stunning Lilly Pulitzer dress will be your go-to dress for any occasion this summer. It's perfect for casual weddings or just a night out with the ladies. The nautical links on this Cape Madras tunic will pair well with your favorite white jeans or shorts, although I suggest mid-thigh length or longer. Ann Taylor LOFT brings sailor pants into style with adorable button details. Sailor pants are incredibly flattering on most body shapes, and I suggest getting them so you are able to tuck your shirt in. Don't focus on the size, focus on the fit. Sailor pants are meant to be worn with shirts tucked in, why would you buy pants with adorable details when you won't show them off? For those dreaming to get on a boat while stuck in their cubicle, this Old Navy tee will help you live out the dream.
Clockwise from right: Lauren Ralph Lauren Andalusia Purse, Kiel James Patrick Cambreshire Dunes Bracelet, Milly for Sperry-Topsiders CVO Laceless Sneakers, Sperry Top-Sider Lakeside Flats, Rugby by Ralph Lauren Boating Club Sack Tote, L.L. Bean Boat and Tote, Kate Spade Sailor Knots Earrings.
The red and blue sailor striped purse from Lauren by Ralph Lauren is able to go from the weekend to the office. I love tassels and the tassel detailing is so cute! This bracelet is USA made in Rhode Island by Kiel James Patrick. This bracelet comes in many colors and styles so there is something to suit anyone's taste. Also for the weekend are these sneakers from Milly for Sperry Top-Sider are divine. For something more formal, Sperry Top-Siders also makes these Lakeside flats which come in a few different colors. I like these gold metallic ones as they would go with all but the most formal of dress. Another tote idea is this one from Rugby Ralph Lauren, featuring a lighthouse motif. If you are wanting the perfect tote, you cannot beat L.L. Bean's Boat and Tote. They come in all sorts of different colors, and you can even customize your colors or add a monogram. Did I mention these totes last forever? They're fairly inexpensive as well. I can't say enough good things about them! And to finish your outfit, these Kate Spade earrings are the perfect topper.
