Probst Furniture: Made With Love in Hamlin

Probst Furniture: Made With Love in Hamlin

Ten years ago, when I was playing Class A girl's basketball, we had the privilege of playing many of the smaller schools in the state. Despite being a Lady of the Golden Horseshoe, I had never heard of many of these schools: Harts, Guyan Valley, Buffalo-Putnam, Duval. But the one school I remember the most was Hamlin, a small town tucked away deep in the hills of Lincoln County. Getting our rear ends continuously handed to us was only half the fun of going to Hamlin. The other fun was the mildly terrifying trip down windy Alternate Route 10. Even the strongest of my team's stomachs would succumb to carsickness, which made for a memorable entrance for my team as we dashed to the locker room bathroom. In the decade since I've last stepped foot on a basketball court, Hamlin...

5 Latest Spring Faves

Spring is almost here—bring on the warmer weather, spring cleaning, new colors, new looks, and freshness! These are five of my favorite things at the moment. Be inspired and enjoy!       New Colors I am absolutely in love with Essie’s new spring collection. This color will be perfect to add to my collection! I purchased this Naked Palette a week before my wedding (almost 2 years ago) and am still using it! It has lasted for forever and looks even better when applied with a wet brush. Sephora now has the Naked Palette 2—looks like it’s time to go shopping!   Spring Cleaning Time to take out the old and bring in the new! When I get in cleaning mode I tend to want to buy new things for my house....

PROM.

PROM.

I'm going to write a word, and I'd like you to think on it for a second before you go on reading the rest of this post. Prom. For many, this word may bring up feelings of nostalgia, happiness, and friendship. For the family and friends of young ladies in high school, it may bring up feelings of terror, dread, and other words that aren't fit for a family publication. I'm aiming this post at those of you who may have some sort of involvement with a young woman heading off to prom in one form or another. If you don't, check back for my next post in which I'll advise you to buy all your clothes in bright colors for this year.  I didn't set out to write on prom or prom fashion until a coworker was telling me a story about a girl she knew who...

Spice Things Up: Trends in Bedroom Decor

Spice Things Up: Trends in Bedroom Decor

Despite the fact I blog about fashion, there is actually something else I shop for more often than shoes or purses: home goods. I spend more time shopping in the bedding section of department stores than I do the clothing section. No joke, I probably own somewhere in the neighborhood of 10+ comforters and quilts, and that number doesn't even count my duvet covers. There's an old saying that goes “Change your shoes, change your life.” I believe that very much about my bedspread. Our bedrooms say a lot about us, and tend to be our most personal retreat—where we can truly be ourselves. This is why I spend a lot of time tinkering around with how my bedroom looks. It's my temple away from the world, and I treat it like such. Take me to any department...

Conquering the Closet

Conquering the Closet

I'd like to welcome you to 2012. I can't say what the year holds for any of us, but so far it looks like it may be an interesting one. So sit back and hold on tight. Like many folks, I like to clean out the closet to accompany the brand-new feeling of a new year. It seems right to me to start off the new year on a good foot, especially in my favorite flats I've been missing for six months. I keep thinking to myself: I keep wearing the same few things over and over again. And I'm right. I really wasn't sure what was in my closet, dresser, or giant pile of laundry until I went through everything last weekend. And I mean everything: last weekend, I did, no joke, eight loads of laundry and roughly 10 hours of work. If you're wondering why—yes, I do...

New Year's Resolutions

New Year's Resolutions

It’s a New Year, and everyone has his or her own type of resolution. The top 3 this year are: lose weight, get fit, quit smoking. Instead of the same ol' traditional resolution, I decided to go a little out of the box this year and create a fun unique list of resolutions! I thought I’d share some of them here.   Live a little more this year through your wardrobe! Brighten it up with some of these exuberant colors above. Sometimes I can stay so “between-the-lines” when it comes to brightening up my every day outfits. I always seem to find myself in blacks and grays…boring! So I’m challenging myself to start with pops of color. The shoes above from Jessicasimpson.com would be a great start for this challenge.   ...

Trends For 2012

Trends For 2012

You may have noticed while finishing up your holiday shopping or returning said shopping that something is different in the store. You're not sure what it is, a bright color just caught your eye while standing in line. You go over to investigate, and are surprised, pleased, and yet disgusted at once. There, in the mall, still surrounded by Santa and three inches of slush outside, is a pastel pink shirt. Covered in brilliantly colored blooms that just radiate happiness and sunshine. You yearn to wear it, yet there's a blizzard coming this weekend. You slam the hanger back on the rack and stalk out of the store in disgust. Seems like cruel and unusual punishment to start the new year, right? The spring collections are already in stores before your Christmas shopping is even...

Dazzling New Year's Eve Ensembles

Dazzling New Year's Eve Ensembles

Some friends and I have been cooking up some plans for New Year's Eve. Despite the fact we've been discussing this event for weeks, we're still mostly undecided as to what we want to do. Actually, we've made some decisions, but I sincerely doubt the good city of Charleston will let us install disco balls on Kanawha Boulevard. My friend Jeannette left me a voicemail saying she really didn't care what we did, she just wants to sparkle. Since I share her love of sparkles, it's hard to disagree. While I'm still unsure of events that sparkle (minus glitterbombing), I can find some great dresses, and add some dazzle from local West Virginia jewelry designers. From West Virginia Gems comes this show-stopping necklace made of Pink & Black Rhodanite,...

Local Holiday Gift Guide: West Virginia on Etsy

Local Holiday Gift Guide: West Virginia on Etsy

If you have ever visited Etsy, the online handmade marketplace, and if you are like me, you have probably spent a lengthy amount of time wandering in circles from handcrafted goods to scrumptious crafting supplies to vintage treasures and back again. Etsy is so packed with talented crafters that it is incredibly easy to just hop aimlessly from shop to shop, taking it all in with the click of a mouse. If you're feeling in need of a little more “browsing direction," however, the main page offers a few different ways to shop. One of these is a local search by country, zip code, or anything in between. The first time I searched “West Virginia” to browse the talent coming out of my beloved home state, I was completely overwhelmed by the spectrum of talent....
