Be Party Ready in Minutes

There's less than a week until Christmas and about two weeks until New Year's. This part of the year is usually full of parties for many people, and impromtu parties are not unheard of. A lot of these spur-of-the-moment parties (and they're always the best ones) tend to happen right after work, after a Christmas program, or at generally bad times. With all the running around the holidays bring, it's a great idea to keep a tote bag ready with a party-ready outfit in your car or office for those random holiday gatherings.

The Dress | Old Navy $20–$28
A little black dress is always in style for any party. I picked this cowl neck sweater dress from Old Navy for several reasons. A sweater or other knit dress won't wrinkle like many other fabrics which makes it a great candidate for keeping in the car. It's also very flattering for most people, and Old Navy has this dress available in plus sizes and maternity as well. I'm also liking the sweater knit for the wonky weather the state's been having this winter. I get to work in the morning and it's 20 degrees, and by noon, it's 60+ degrees.

The Hair | Sleek with Volume
Since you're wanting to get out the door to the party quickly, the easiest way to get a great party look is with a little volume and a sleek hairstyle. Turn your head over and brush your hair out several times quickly. Flip your head back and gently smooth it back starting at about your ears to preserve the fullness. You can then put your hair up in a French twist with some bobby pins or coax it gently into a high ponytail with a sparkly hair tie.

The Accessories | Chic & Sparkly
A little black dress is the easiest thing in the world to accessorize. For a more casual party, I added a chic pair of leopard print flats or for a more glitzy affair, glitter pumps. For both looks, a great pair of earrings and a clutch are de rigueur. You can pick up a cute clutch for under $20 at stores like Charlotte Russe or Wet Seal.

The Beauty | Keep It Simple
You don't have to keep your best makeup with you. That tube of mascara or lipstick that only has a few uses left? This makeup bag is the perfect place to keep them. At the end of the season you can just toss them out and if you loose something, you won't be heartbroken over it. You can also consider picking up a small makeup palette from the drugstore. The key is to pick colors you're comfortable with. Since speed is the key factor here, colors you're used to will expedite the process. Don't spend 15 minutes fretting about the new lipstick you're trying when you could be spending that time laughing with friends and family!
