Planes, Trains, & Automobiles: Packing for Traveling

With the holiday season knocking on the door many people are going to be traveling to see friends and loved ones. For the next month or so you'll see at least three news stories about how gas prices shot up fifty cents overnight or all flights on the Eastern Seaboard are delayed due to a snowstorm. Even if you've never traveled during the holiday season you know it's craziness. Having taken one or ten business trips in my day, my advice is to avoid checked luggage at all costs in case it gets lost (this is assuming you are packing for just yourself). I'm also going to assume you're okay with wearing a pair of jeans at least twice which will really help save on room. Below I'm going to show how to pack for five days, and manage to keep it all in a carry-on....

Get Warm & Cozy with Sweater Dresses

It's officially November and the weather is starting to get colder. The cute sundresses of summer have been packed up, but sweater dresses are a great replacement. I picked out three of my personal favorite sweater dresses and dressed them up for you. I took a nice, simple belted dress and found two purses that I love to go with it. On the left side, I took a green and blue tote whose handles match the tan on the belt and with the boots. You don't have to stick with heeled boots, flat boots in the same color will work just as well. I then took the colors out of the purse and found matching jewelry. Since this dress has a cowl neckline, you don't need to add a necklace or scarf as that's just way too much around your neck. On the right hand side of this...

Monogram Mania

Monograms have always been in style, but in the past year they've exploded onto everything from necklaces to lampshades (no kidding). I love monograms because they're one of the few things that truly belong to you. Everybody can carry the same bag or wear the same necklace, but chances are not as likely that someone will have the same initials as you. You now also have the opportunity to monogram almost anything in an unseeingly endless variety of prints, colors, and fonts, allowing you to stand out even more. Polka Dot Perfection

I’m seeing spots everywhere lately and I love it! I’m not sure what it is, but almost every time I go shopping I leave with something dotted. Polka dots look cute anywhere and in any color. It’s a great print to mix with other prints and always makes for a great statement piece. Here are a couple dotted items that are on my wish list! Fabulous Fall Accessories

For me, the accessories for fall this year stand out more than the clothes. I'm having a hard time finding the clothes I want in the colors or styles that I want. Despite every disappointing trip to the mall looking for sweaters, I've wanted to walk out every time with the entire purse department. I've come close a few times, if one of my friends or sisters hadn't been there to pull me away. Here are some of the best accessories I've found for fall. 1. I don't have pierced ears, but for these tortoise shell earrings with pastel rhinestone details, I would consider it. I love the lavender against the dark brown. 2. Fun Fall To-Do List

I’m sure I mentioned this in my last post, but in case you didn’t know, Fall is my favorite season! The cooler weather, the pretty leaves, all of it just makes me want to sing! Here are a few fun things to do this Fall and an idea of what you might wear to each festivity. Go on a coffee date. Whether you’re going with the girls or your man, this is more typical but a must-do during this season. Here’s an idea of my coffee date attire: something cozy (of course), neutral colored, and simple. If you're loc ated in North Central West Virginia spend your coffee date at one of these local loves. A Quick Guide to Fall Trends

About mid-August, there was one beautiful Saturday that was breezy, sunny, and under 80 degrees. Then there was another two weeks of 80+ temperatures. Ever since that one day, I have been obsessed with sweaters and other fall trends. It's hard to think about wearing darker colors or long sleeves in when it's 90° in September, and it's hard to put the white jeans away. Here in Huntington, though, the weather has cooled off considerably, and there may be a frost(!) next week. I definitely think it's time to pull out the fall clothes. The biggest trends from this board are black-and-white, Peter Pan collars, polka dot sweaters, and ankle boots. Ignore the old white-after-Labor Day sayings, because black-and-white was hot on the runway. You can make...

Magic Wands

Mascara is truly a magical wand in many women's makeup bags. As technology makes better formulas and better wands, it's becoming slightly confusing how to figure out what is the right mascara for you. Here is a chart to help you get started: 1. If you're looking for length and definition, a silicon bristle wand is your best friend. This wand is a bit different because it's a heart-shaped brush instead of the normal straight style. The tapering at the end of the brush allows you to get those hard to get lashes. The best part about this mascara is it's price: you can find Maybelline's for around $5. 2.
