Back to Basics

Basic items will carry your wardrobe through any change in trends.

We all need basics in our wardrobe. They’re the solution to our wardrobe woes. Basic clothing items can be mixed and matched with everything. Anytime is a great time to shop for basics, but with fall just around the corner, it’s a great idea to stock up. These pieces will have you getting ready in a snap and your wardrobe worries will be a thing of the past!

Basic Tee T-Shirts

Basic T-shirts come in handy. Purchase them in solid colors like white, gray, and black. These colors can be worn under any jacket, vest, or sweater. Ts are comfortable pieces that can also be dressed up. Wear them under the trendy tuxedo jacket, or a classic blazer with jeans, for an edgy ensemble.

Basic Cami Camisoles

The camisole is a piece you’ll wear time and time again. Every retailer is carrying sheer blouses right now, and a bandeau top underneath isn’t appropriate for every occasion—especially if that occasion is work. Wear camisoles under sheer tops for an office-appropriate look, and have them on hand for wearing under cardigans and jackets as well.

Basic Cardigan Cardigans

C is for cardigan. C is also for cozy, classic, and chic—all words that perfectly describe the cardigan. Again, I can’t stress enough how important it is to own basic colors. They’re essential in pairing with skirts, dresses, and slacks. Plus, indoor temperatures always vary, so having a cardigan nearby will keep you comfortable.

The Suit A Suit

A suit can be difficult to find and fit, but it’s crucial that you own one. Opt for high-quality so you can get more wear out of it. Most people think of interviews when they’re suit shopping, but suits can be worn as separates too. You can wear the blazer from a suit with jeans, or the pencil skirt from a suit with a blouse. The outfits are endless when you own a great suit.

The LBD A Little Black Dress

The LBD is a staple in any woman’s closet. We all want to look like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. This classic garment is very versatile, and accessories will help you switch up your look. Try colorful scarves and jewelry. The LBD is also a great transitional item because it can seamlessly go from work to evening-wear. Trade your work heels for a pair of brightly-hued pumps, and voila! You have a different outfit.

The Jeans Jeans

Nothing looks better than a pair of great fitting jeans. Everyone needs their favorite pair—the ones that make everything seem alright in the world. Darker jeans can be dressed up or down, and also make you look super slim. Jeggings and skinny jeans are the current trend, but choose a pair that's right for you.
