Pie, Oh My!

Sometimes you just crave a good ol' homecooked meal. But when you're at Apple Annie's in Point Marion, Pennsylvania, just a few short miles from Morgantown, the gargantuan, five-pound servings of cakes, pies, cobblers, and gobs are the best part of the meal. That's right, five pounds of dessert. And yes, we said "gobs"—more commonly known as whoopie pies.
Apple Annie's was established in 1991 by Barbara Ann and Ray “Chipper” O’Neil in a quaint little house in an alley. Today, Kelly Rockwell, Barb and Chipper's daughter, helps run the restaurant and says, "Baking and cooking from scratch are a dying art, and these days people are looking for something besides chain restaurants."
Open Tuesday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Apple Annie's offers a welcoming, casual atmosphere and low prices, and serves up breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including favorite menu items like buckwheat pancakes and omelets; sandwiches, paninis, and burgers; baked steak, cream chicken over biscuits, and so much more. And every single day, Chipper and Kelly bake from scratch dozens of pies, cakes, cobblers, and their famous apple dumplings.
